Bahati had surgery on her eyes when she was younger but did not receive proper post surgery medical care. She now has severe vision problems. We could tell right away something was wrong by the way her eyesĀ āfloatedāĀ in different directions. She was unable to focus on anything and wouldnāt be able to attend school if we didnāt help. Special schools for the blind do exist here butĀ areĀ few and far between.Ā Even thoughĀ space was limited, weĀ agreed to make room at theĀ CenterĀ toĀ see what we could doĀ about regaining her vision.Ā Read her full story: https://maasairescue.org/2020/09/14/regaining-her-vision-bahatis-story/
Bahati is not currently attending school. She is being taught by our MGRC teacher. She along with 8 other girls are getting personal attention as they are being prepared for 1st grade in January 2021. Bahati, despite her vision handicap is a very eager learner. She takes pride in showing us her work and counting out loud in both English and Kiswahili.
